Agriculture is the backbone of Sierra Leone's economy, accounting for almost half its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and providing a living for over two thirds of the population. MAFFS is the central government agency responsible for promoting the development of agriculture in Sierra Leone. The ministry has six central divisions and twelve district offices headed by District Directors of Agriculture and supported by subject matter specialists drawn from the different divisions.
